Favourite TV Shows of All-Time

Here’s my list of the best shows of all-time in order more or less.  I’ve watched a lot of TV but there is still a lot out there. Please, go ahead and judge me. Tell me which shows I’ve left off and tell me I’m crazy for it because those are the shows I want to watch next.

1. Veronica Mars – F&$@ing love Veronica Mars. From the first episode all the way to the movie.

2. The Fall – this show makes you have the most conflicting feelings.

3. Outlander – ohmahgerd I love this show

4. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver – Funniest show on tv.

5. SNL – I’ve been annoying people with my snl impressions since before I could walk. For a while in my early 20s, we listened to Celebrity Jeopardy in the car instead of music.

6. Game of Thrones – Where the underdogs of society fight to be on the thrown.

7. Spartacus – T&A 300 style.

8. The Mindy Project – “with me you were the fart room more than ever”

9. The 100 – This show just doesn’t slow down

10. Chapelle’s Show – “is Waybe Brady gonna have to smack a ho?!”

11. Prison Break – Wentworth Millar.

12. True Blood – First couple seasons only because what the hell happened!? Fairies is where they lost me

13. The Killing – Haunting. Cried so bad during the finale.

14. Damages – Binge watched this one last year. Amazing.

15. Gossip Girl – still mourning the tragedy that is whatshisfaces upper lip. This show had me talking like Chuck Bass for weeks after the finale. “I’m Chuck Bass”. How did someone so gross at the beginning become that hot by the end?

16. Master of None – real af.  Apparently. Wouldn’t know though bc I’ve been married forever.

17. Downton Abbey – Gosford Park on steroids

18. Sherlock – Love watching those two act together.

19. Freaks and Geeks – Absolutely brilliant show.

20. Witch’s of Eastend – Would love this one to come back. It really looked like another season would be fun. Thanks Renee for the recommendation.

21. Roswell – Back when people liked whatsherface

22. The Walking Dead – I had to take a break from this show for awhile. It makes me have nightmares. I’m back at it now. It is truly the best of the best

23.Parks and Rec – I want to be Leslie Knope. Waffles.

24. The Office – Jim and Pam 4eva

25. Orange is the New Black – when the mom gets run over by the truck driven by the cancer lady that just broke out of prison…the best moment in television history

26. Dollhouse – This show offered a concept I had never thought of and it was a joy to watch.

27. That 70’s Show – When I was growing up in the 00’s, this was my coming of age show. I had red hair and my boyfriend (now husband) was a skinny white boy.  It was really weird to watch and I loved it.

28. The Goldbergs – only get to watch this while visiting my mom. Absolutely hilarious.

29. 24 – Seasons 1-3 if I remember correctly. If that includes Jack Bauer saying “I’m gong to need a hacksaw” then we’re all good.

30. Scrubs – never watched the last season. Should I?

31. Undeclared – Made me wish I had lived on campus.

32. Saved By The Bell – When Jessie takes the drugs man. All the feels.

33. The Middle – This show came out when I became a parent. So so funny. “Gawd mom!! Why don’t we ever have any food in this house!?”

34. Modern Family –  For the dad jokes.

35. How I Met Your Mother – The most I’ve ever cried during a finale.

36. The Big Bang Theory – I like it because I usually know what they are talking about. It makes me feel smart 🙂

37. Mash – Alan Alda is the man

38. Lost – I was so hooked and then so angry with this show. Good for them for keeping their pits clear of hair though. Had their priorities straight. Team Sawyer.

39. Seinfeld – “you’ve got to see the baby”.  I can’t lick an envelope without thinking of George’s wife. This show made a huge impression on me. That series finale was so depressing but fit right in.

40. Heros – First Season because….zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz sorry I fell asleep watching season 2 and 3. There’s a 4th season now isn’t there? Ugh

41. Law and Order

42. Law and Order: SVU

43. Community – “Troy and Abed in the morning

44. Happy Endings – Season 1

45. The X-Files – Seasons 1-4. My dad gets his head put in a bucket in one of the episodes. I watched the head being made and it was so awesome.

46. Olivia – The best kids show ever.

47. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air – I recently participated in a Carlton Dance-Off at a bar during 90’s trivia night.

48. Star Trek: TNG – obs.

What are your favourites?

Kid’s Shows

Please dear gawd, pick something else. If I have to hear the Paw Patrol theme song one more time I’m going to scream.

Here are my picks for shows your kid’s will enjoy and you won’t hate.

  1. Curious George – Our all-time family favourite. 3 Movies, a Halloween Special, a Christmas Special, and 9 seasons. Unfortunately not all available on Netflix Canada. As Griffen says “Let’s go back to Great Wolf Lodge so we can watch George Halloween” Has Griffen told you the story of No Noggin?
  2. Puffin Rock – Very cute Irish show about a family of Puffins. Sister Oona and her little brother Baba play very nicely together. “Oh baba”.  Narrated by Kristen Wiig’s love interest in Bridesmaids. This show is beautiful. Literally, the colours are really nice.  It’s not repetitive and the theme song is very short. puffin rock
  3. Sarah and Duck – British show about a girl and her duck. This one is narrated too. It’s slow pace and next to no music helps parents wind down.CBeebies-Sarah-Duck
  4. Stella and Sam – This one is great for showing how siblings can play together, unlike Max and Ruby where Ruby is a bitch.DL_StellaSam_1280x725_74166851724
  5. Peppa Pig – This simple show has a cute and short theme song and a soft spoken Peppa. Her family will teach your kids that it’s good to play in muddy puddles. There are only a couple seasons on Netflix Canada but there over 200 episodes made.
  6. Olivia – Our second favourite kids show of all time. With a cute and catchy theme song with just one word repeated over and over again, we love it.
  7. Word World – While the other shows teach the little ones without having it spelled out. This one really spells it all out. All the animals and the surroundings are made up of the letters that spell them. For example for the beds, the headboard is the line in the b and the footboard is the line in the d.  They spell the entire show and it’s great.word world
  8. Peg + Cat – Whereas Word World was a spelling show. This is a math show. Some repetitiveness with Peg yelling “this is a really big problem”! But it doesn’t get too bad. The theme song is fun.peg + cat
  9. Dinosaur Train – Really really catchy theme song but it isn’t too annoying.  There are other great tunes during the shows as well.  If your kid likes dinosaurs, they should be watching this show.  Dr. Scott the Paleontologist comes in at the break and teaches you even more. He has little kids say long complicated dinosaur names and it’s super cute. He’s the new CEO of Science World and was born in Vancouver.
  10. Justin Time – Another show with a not-so-annoying theme song. This is a lesser known show. It’s about a boy and his pet squidgy and his friend. They go on adventures together. For example, Justin thinks it would be great to have a pet so he asks his dad. His dad tries to tell him how much work it would be. Justin dreams of having a pet elephant and he has to walk it and feed it and bath it and it’s just too much so when he wakes up he tells his dad he’s not ready. There is a special place in my heart for shows that teach my kid valuable lessons for me.justin time.jpg
  11. Magic School Bus – A true classic 90’s show. A whole show dedicated to the digestive system? Hell yes.
  12. Cat in the Hat – Want to know about limpets or ostriches? This is the show for you. Want a theme song that’s kind of annoying and hard to get out of your head. This is also the show for you.  Martin Short plays the Cat. I’m a fan so I like it. These parents though? They never think the kids are being serious so they say “okay no problem, go wherever you want with some weird cat”. So yeah there’s that…
  13. Sid The Science Kid – An ugly and somewhat annoying show tbh. It’s chalked full of fun science though so I like it. Lots of female scientists too!
  14. Arthur – I don’t know why but I like this 90’s show. The kids will watch it but it isn’t their go to.
  15. Kipper – A middle-aged British dog walks around with his friends. With a white background, no singing, and an old school theme song, this show is nice for slowing down the kids. kipper.jpg
  16. Max and Ruby – As Scott and Krystle always say “Ruby, you’re such a bitch”.  I think she’s just an older sister who has her own agenda.  Max is younger and doesn’t know many words.  He often does the wrong thing but it ends up being right in the end. The grandma is the best. She always knows how to handle the situation and I wish she would make me cookies.
  17. Little Bear – This one is slow paced too. It shows bear and his animal friends having shenanigans in the forest. The parents are soft spoken and sweet too. The friends can be weird. The cat especially. What is his problem. He’s shady.little bear

Which ones did I miss?

The Mindy Project

The Mindy Project – run, don’t walk, to your comfy chair and watch this show. All 4.5 seasons on Netflix Canada. It’s good for singles, marrieds, women, men, and most a must-must-watch for young women.

Crying buckets.
**SPOILERS**

Ohmahgerd where are the tissues. The Mindy Project gave us all the feels at the end of their 4th mid-season finale. What’s your take on what Mindy is doing? At first I was so excited when she measured the crib. I thought yes! She’s going to see if the crib fits in her apartment because she’s going to make it her new office and little Leo can be there with her during the day. Her staff can help watch him when she has to deliver babies. Danny can work there with her too. Then I realized….nope she’s leaving Danny isn’t she. Is she?!

This season was amazing. It really pushed boundaries and showed us a real take on the modern women and also what women have been dealing with forever. Feels like they were allowed more creative license since moving to Hulu. Like when they are in bed and Mindy says “come on, just slip out” or when they took on breastfeeding in public. She didn’t make a huge statement on breastfeeding in public or breastfeeding in general but her view was there. Her view is my view, so it was awesome.

Mindy showed us that women fart and that’s okay. And that desks can sit diagonally. I think I yelled “hallelujah” when she said their needed to be a chair in the shower because she gets tired. I get you sister. This show is seriously funny. Mindy is smart, confident, and hilarious. I love you.

Mindy, we wish you many many more seasons of this groundbreaking show.

Mindy Kaling as Mindy Lahiri. Chris Messina as Danny Castellano. Ike Barenholtz as Morgan Tookers. Ed Weeks as Jeremy Reid. Beth Grant as Beverly. Xosha Roquemore as Tamra. Adam Pally as Peter Prentice. Rhea Perlman as Annette Castellano. Utkarsh Ambudkar as Rishi.

Daredevil is Back!

Daredevil returns for a second season.

Recap of season 1: super cool blind fighting, dark allies, blood, crazy childhood experiences, and Rosario Dawson. Season 2 looks promising with the addition of The Punisher (Shane from The Walking Dead’s first season) and Elektra (not Jennifer Garner). Remember folks, this is not your Ben Affleck dud of a movie, Daredevil. This is grittier, more fun, and hella compelling. Also has that redhead from True Blood and the guy that is sometimes in a wheelchair in The Butterfly effect.

I will admit the show got a bit boring in the middle but don’t let it deter you from finishing the first season. It’s got a great ending.

In related news, did you watch Jessica Jones yet? You should.  I love shows with female leads. Actually all my favorite shows right now are led by women – Scandal, 100, The Fall, and The Mindy Project. And of course there are these other fantastic shows: Veronica Marz, Damages, X-Company, Outlander, Downton Abbey, How To Get Away With Murder, OITNB. Which ones am I missing? Jessica Jones was a lot of fun. The three strong females are the rich ditz from Veronica Mars, the chick that’s not from Gone Girl, and KD Lang’s sister from The Matrix. There is a special spot in my heart for girls taking down a room full of bad guys. It was also cool to see that thin guy from Spartacus. He had a few episodes on Empire too and his shirt choices make me interested in him.

This cash cow is just beginning. Look out for Luke Cage’s own series in the near future. There will be crossovers too, which are always fun. Luke Cage will be the third of four series which will culminate in a special The Defenders miniseries.

I’ll be posting the actors names at the bottom of each blog post because as true as my descriptions are, some people want to know their real names.

Daredevil
Matt Murdock as Charlie Cox. Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson. Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page. Rosario Dawson as Night Nurse. Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin. Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Fisk

Jessica Jones
Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones. Rachael Taylor as Trish. Eka Darville as Malcolm. David Tennent as Kilgrave. Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth. Wil Traval as Will. Mike Colter as Luke Cage.

I recommended Daredevil for Brown, Ahonens, Scott, Stu, Jack, Dad, and Krystle
